A man of my heart, this Ben Staley. I used to be a semi-pro musician in my 20s. I had a load of stuff. Guitars, amps, cabs, all gadgets. By the time, I was 30 I had given up the music business and went on to do other things. I still play, but now I have one acoustic guitar. And here's the thing, it's the first guitar I ever bought. A maple-backed Washburn I got in 1991. My peers think I'm nuts.

'You've only got one guitar,' they say.

'But guys, it's the only guitar I'll ever need.'

Fact is, I don't need all the stuff now; I've given trying to be a rock star. I just want to play, and this guitar with its sweet, ageing tone is perfect.
