Cleese is extremely boring when he talks about being funny.

He also comes across as being rather pompous. Which he is. But that's OK, because he's a writer and actor as opposed to a stand-up. Jimmie Carr is pompous, and not very good. Frankie Boyle isn't, and is very good.
