Great piece. Since the death of my father, I've become closer to my step-mother, but there seems unfinished business. She treated me badly as a kid – even her own mother said that – and yet now it feels strange that we're so nice to each other. Maybe it's best to let things go, after all, we're getting older. But it niggles me.
