I always wondered why the US kept sending folk to The Moon. I think 12 have done it so far. But once they had, it seemed fruitless to keep going back. For what? To collect rocks? Or to show the USSR how clever they were. Either way, no one has been since 1972, so it couldn't have been that great—too cold, perhaps?

Sunk-cost fallacy. Beware, all novel writers! Once, you've started on your 1000-page fantasy epic, there is no going back. Strike out seven years of your life.

Or, here's an idea, you could write the first chapter, and make a decision. Is this going anywhere? I'm speaking from experience.
