I've been fascinated by coincidences for years. They seem to crop up in bundles. You read a book, and the next book, picked entirely at random, has the same place name or dog breed. Or anything. Then another thing is linked, like a letter through the post.

Then nothing for weeks.

As a scientist (lapsed) I look for reason. The reason is that you don't see every coincidence, or they are too spaced out, so you don't note it, but they are there all the time. But that's boring! So I think there's something more at stake!
