I've followed your journey. It's been interesting. I've absolutely no idea how medium works. It his a mind of its own. BUT, you're right, you've got to take it seriously, and put in the hours. And most importantly, be true to yourself. Don't write about stuff you don't believe it, or have no experience of. People aren't stupid (well, give or take a few ), and they'll see through you like you're standing in an X-ray machine stark bollock naked.
