Kafka told his friend Max Brod to burn his unpublished books when he died.... he didn't.

“She told me when I found it to burn it,” he continued quietly. He shrugged. “But I doubt it matters to her now,” he set the journal back down on a pile of outdated receipts.
“Burn before reading,” she said.
