Kurt Vonnegut is a good case in point. He wrote with his dead sister in mind, Alice, I remember that. My best stories are the ones that I write for myself. Whenever I try to write for the audience - what I think folk who read my work might like whether it's fiction or comedy, generally (but not always) — fails. I might think of someone who recently really enjoyed my work, and write with him or her in mind. NO! Big mistake.
That's my view on things at the moment. Thanks for your thoughts.
