Magic Bruce! Although, I would say the horror genre is probably as old as movies themselves. I'm thinking of those early Dracula flicks. I mean, films of the time must have been pretty drab, Gone With the Wind, is just boring. So I can see why people wanted something a bit more gory for their hard-earned money. In short, they didn't want to see reality, they wanted to see the shit in their dreams and the stuff they read in books. After all, all the classic horror was written in the 19th century. You could say watching mindless comedies like Friends, is the greatest sign of a bored and morally corrupt society.
