My best guess is that people who move a lot when they are young—I did before I hit upon my 'town' (luckily I wasn't born there)—are more likely to move around. A lot of folk I know who travel had itinerant parents.

Or, perhaps, parents who went on holidays, or who travelled a lot on business. Maybe it's a class thing. Or money? Certainly worthy of a study.
