The branding is very clever. Put in the word Liberal and Democracy, and everyone thinks it's good. Use the word Oligarchy, and it's Russian, and very bad. As you point out, it's the same thing. As a Brit, we still have The House of Lords, unelected, rich, and very influential. Say no more.
