The more I think about it, the more there's a lot more to this. My piece was 4 minutes, but it could be 10. 100? A book?
As you alluded to, it's about choice. And that's the difference. I could have stayed in the UK. But I didn't want to. I wanted a 'better life.' I was angry about Brexit because it curtailed my rights to live in Spain, or Italy etc. Brexit was a 1st world problem. Most folk would be happy just to be in any EU country, but I wanted them all.
The curious thing is, I'm up for French citizenship in two years. Then what will be my status? Expat still? Immigrant? Or will I cease to be either, and be simply French?
I suspect, there is a piece in that somewhere...
