Why I Won’t Be Buying an Electric Car Any Time Soon
My old car works perfectly well, thank you!

On a recent trip back to the UK from France, where I live, I was astonished by the number of green vehicle registration-plated cars—a rather snooty badge of honour for people who own electric vehicles (EV).
Not that these cars were going anywhere. As soon as I got off the ferry at Portsmouth and onto the M27, the traffic slowed to a procession. A timely reminder of how busy England is these days.
According to data, 20% of all new cars in 2023 in the UK were EVs. Awesome! So at last people are slowly becoming aware of how crucial the climate situation is and are doing something about it.
Ha! That would be fanciful reading.
As I trundled along the M27 towards Southhampton, I couldn’t help noticing that most of the green-plated EVs were huge SUVs or Range Rovers. Giant armour-plated cars that wouldn’t look out of place in a sci-fi movie. And not only that but there were loads of them.
According to my brother, most of his friends own an EV. Not because they want to save the planet, but because they are cheaper to run. Furthermore, they’re trendy. Driving a brand new state-of-the-art EV really is like being on the…
