You're right, the error is people think just having a book on Amazon will mean it'll sell. Amazon do nothing to sell your book. Nothing! Unless you pay them. My experience of their marketing platform is not good. I lost money.

I only started selling a few books when I had a review in a French expat online mag (my book is based in a village in France). Bang! Exposure! Only way!
